I’m currently trying to get good at Bushido Blade and cursing Square Enix for not making a new one, but I do often talk about wanting to get good at one fighting game — Persona, these days — much like I talk about one day becoming a professional baseball or soccer player. Or going to the gym. Or going for a run. Or calling family members. Or answering emails. Or leaving the country. Or all the others things I’m never actually going do to, instead choosing to waste away second by second, measuring my life out in smoothie spoons (I’m adding chia today).

Anyway, Patrick Miller has devised a free ebook guide to fighting games in conjunction with Shoryuken, with help from Skullgirls’ Mike Z, Seth Killian, and illustrations from Mariel Cartwright and Jonathan Kim.

It’s basically teaching you how to play Street Fighter; specifically, Ryu. From these basics, you can branch out and learn other fighters. Like Gundam Battle Assault 2. We should play some time.
