Final Fantasy XVI (FF16) Behemoth King, The Masterless Marauder location and Hunt guide

The Final Fantasy XVI Masterless Marauder, otherwise known as the Behemoth King, is arguably the toughest hunt in the game. It will rain down fireballs and lightning from the sky. It’s certainly a deadly combo. Here’s how to find the Final Fantasy XVI Masterless Marauder and beat it.

Unfortunately, this Behemoth King hunt can’t be accessed until near the end of the game. You’ll need to begin the Back to Their Origin story mission but don’t head out for the final boss straight away. Two side quests need to be finished as well.

To unlock the Final Fantasy XVI Behemoth King hunt, you’ll need to first complete the Nobody’s Tool quest. This comes after completing the Self-Determination mission. Once you’re set up, the Final Fantasy XVI Masterless Marauder shows up nearby the Vidargraes fast travel point on the world map. It’s in the Kingdom of Waloed region, far northeast of the Hideaway. Look to the right and go south; you’ll quickly see the majesty of the Behemoth King in front of you.

How to beat the Behemoth King

As this is an S-rank boss battle, you should prepare yourself. Get as many Potions and High Potions as possible and upgrade them. Once you begin the fight, you immediately have to be aware of the Four Horseman attack. The Behemoth King brings down four fireballs that once they come into contact with the ground create a ripple effect. Dodge to the best of your ability in time with the line that shows below Clive’s feet.

Like the Kuza Beast, it will begin to run at you and charge. You can tell when it does this if it leans on one side. Additionally, it will jump up in the sky and try to grab you with its claws. Dodge out of the way in time for both of these strikes. Be wary of the tail swipes as well; it will raise its backfoot readying for the attack. If the tail hits Clive, he’ll take 500-1000 damage, depending on the status of the battle (it seemingly doubles when it’s at half-health).

The next scary attack from the Final Fantasy XVI Masterless Marauder is Reign of Fire. Pillars of blue energy will emerge from the ground, which designate where each falling fireball will land. Get to either the left or the right of each pillar and then be prepared to avoid the ripple of fire that follows each one.

As you avoid each of these hits, try to Limit Break and bring down its stamina meter as much as possible. Doing some occasional abilities like Ignition and Aerial Blast also reduces its stamina.

Do you think that’s tough?

As you’re nearing the end of the battle, it has one last surprise in store for you, and it isn’t pleasant. Maelstrom builds a pillar of lightning storms that can zap Clive out of existence. Don’t be around the Behemoth King while it performs this attack. If you find yourself stuck in the storm, your HP will be reduced by a significant 2,060 damage. During my first attempt, my health was brought down to a panicking 54HP. Don’t let this happen to you and heal often. If the lightning storm isn’t enough, it will also launch fireballs from the sky at you once more. Try to keep your distance from the Behemoth King and be vigilant during the last moments of the fight.

Apocalypse is a repeat of Reign of Fire but this time, the move actually repeats multiple times. The end of the attack calls down a massive fireball. Get out of the red AoE (area of effect) to avoid the conclusion of the ability gracefully.
