Putting the world on its back
Some of Final Fantasy XVI‘s deadliest optional fights await in the S-rank Hunts, and you can tackle one pretty early if you choose to. The Breaker of Worlds is a special Hunt in Final Fantasy XVI that will appear after you reach the “Out of the Shadow” main story quest, and you get some good prizes for taking Atlas down if you go after it.
The Breaker of Worlds is not tied to any specific quest, though it does entail a good reward: the rare resource Orichalcum. First noted as “The Breaker of Worlds” on the Hunt Board, it will later have its name updated to Atlas after facing or defeating it. Here’s how to find it, and take it down for its rewards.
The Breaker of Worlds location & directions in Final Fantasy XVI (FF16)
The Hunt Board doesn’t give many details about Atlas’ location, aside from it being in a Rosarian ruin. To find the Breaker of Worlds, you’ll want to head towards Cressida, a town east of Martha’s Rest and past the Greensheaves region. You’ll find Atlas hiding out in an arena, behind the abandoned town.
You’ll need to either fight, or run by, a decently sized force of enemies. They’re not too difficult to deal with, at around the mid-30s range in levels. Atlas, though, is a little tougher.
Final Fantasy XVIÂ (FF16) The Breaker of Worlds Hunt tips & tricks
If you’ve fought some of the iron giant-style enemies, you already know a lot of Atlas’ basic moves. He tends to do some change-ups, altering the speed of certain slashes at different intervals to throw off your timing. If you’re running a Titan-focused counter playstyle, this can be hard to read.
I found a lot of success with Bahamut, building up four full stacks of Megaflare by dodging some of the longer reaching attacks and whittling away at Atlas’ health that way. You don’t get a lot of staggers, but you do put out some decent damage. Keep an eye out for moves where the Breaker of Worlds launches projectiles alongside his slashes; usually, his blade will be a giveaway.
At several points, Atlas can unleash a few big moves. His rain of projectiles is easy enough to get away from. However, roughly halfway through the fight, Atlas will also start sprinkling in moves like Golden Section.
These are massive sword swipes that practically cover the arena. Titan block or precision dodge these. I wasn’t able to test if they could be parried, because honestly, I didn’t want to gamble against a sword that big. The Breaker of Worlds is level 45 in the basic game, and certainly no slouch.
The reward for taking down the Breaker of Worlds in Final Fantasy XVI is pretty worth it though. Orichalcum is a rare resource used to upgrade the highest-end gear in the game, and you’ll definitely want it for making some of the best weapons Final Fantasy XVI has to offer.
