[Update:Ā As a follow-up to the XIV 6.1 preliminary patch notes, we now have the full deal here. Although preliminary notes were pretty comprehensive, this one fills in some extra numbers.]

[Update #2:Ā Square Enix has updated the patch page as of 1AM PT on April 19 to provide a look at the items involved in patch 6.1.]

The Final Fantasy XIV 6.1 preliminary patch notes are here, and they’re lengthy! The patch didn’t come as soon as Square Enix would have liked due to delays, but now that it’s here, it seems like they’ve more than made up for it.

With these notes, you can see roughly how long the new main story quest (MSQ) is going to be, and get plenty of insight when it comes to new content in image teaser form.

Most notably, we got info on where to start new 6.1 content:

  • Main Story Quest – The Rising Stones (X:6.0 Y:5.9)
  • Chronicles of a New Era – Old Sharlayan (X:9.1 Y:11.5) –Ā This also leads to the new 24-person raid, Aglaia
  • Role quests – Radz-at-Han (X:7.7 Y:9.4)
  • Minstrel’s Ballad: Ensinger’s Aria – Old Sharlayan (X:12.7 Y:14.2)
  • Ultima’s Bane (Unreal) – Patch 6.11 – Idyllshire (X:7.0 Y:5.9)
  • Crystalline Conflict PVP – Limsa Lominsa Upper Decks (X:13.1 Y:12.8)

Old stuff got a refresh, too. New Game+ is now bulked-up, with Endwalker main scenario quests and all sorts of sidequests added to the feature. The Realm RebornĀ main quest has even been “altered” (likely to cut down some filler), which will not impact the story. It’s pretty rare for an MMO to rework old content like this outside of a drastic change likeĀ World of Warcraft‘s Cataclysm.

Beyond that, in the 6.1 preliminary patch notes, there’s a ton of info on new housing items, extra Gold Saucer prizes, Hrothgar customization, and a full expansion of the solo duty system (with NPC partners). I’ve seen so many of these patch notes and I’m still in awe of how comprehensive they are and how much they add.

There are a few caveats. Dragonson’s Reprise (Ultimate) is coming in patch 6.11, after 6.1 proper. The custom delivery client, new tribe quests, and more Hildebrand quests are then coming later in patch 6.15. Then data center travel will launch with patch 6.18. They’ve communicated this clearly, but I know it’s a little confusing, so it’s worth repeating.
