Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada today confirmed something that many fans have been waiting to hear — Final Fantasy IX is coming to the PlayStation Network! The game was teased last week by Square Enix producer Shinji Hashimoto, and today the CEO stated it was definitely happening in a short, six-second video.

Final Fantasy IX tells the story of a young thief named Zidane who becomes embroiled in a battle between good and evil after a bungled attempt to kidnap a princess. Its lighthearted humor, retro-flavored character designs and innocent charm helped set it apart from its contemporary, brooding Final Fantasy counterparts.

Final Fantasy IX is easily my favorite FF game in the series, and I am thrilled it’s coming. So far, of course, it’s only confirmed for Japanese PSN, but Square Enix always brings its FF games to the West. I simply cannot wait.
