Final Fantasy has sold over 185 million units worldwide

Final Fantasy continues to flourish.

Square Enix revealed its financial results for the last six months ending September 30. From the report, we learn that while profits may be down, Final Fantasy is reaching new milestones.

The report reveals a 33.4% drop in operating income and a 42.1% decline in ordinary income. According to the company, there has been a fall in net sales for MMOs and games for PCs and smart devices because the latest releases including the “September launch of ‘Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis‘ were unable to compensate for factors including weak performances by existing titles.”

Final Fantasy is still one of Square Enix’s greatest assets

Don’t take this as a sign that Square Enix is doomed, however, as there is a 5.3% increase in net sales. The company attributes this rise, in part, to Final Fantasy 16 and Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster.

This isn’t the only positive thing revealed about the franchise, as the company also claims that it has sold over 185 million copies. This is good news for fans, as reports earlier this year suggested that Final Fantasy 16 did not meet the upper end of expectations.

Dragon Quest also gets a mention, and it is stated that it has sold 88 million copies globally. Looking forward, Final Fantasy will have plenty more chances to boost its sales. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is set to launch on February 29, 2024, and a PC port of Final Fantasy 16 is still on the way.
