I get what Jim was saying yesterday about new iOS title Final Fantasy: All The Bravest. Square Enix’s offerings as of late are potentially good games that are hurt by their pay to play pricing structure, and this new one with its $3.99 cost for new levels is no different. And $0.99 for a random character purchase? C’mon. Trust me, 100 times over — I get it.
If you want to try a really silly game with what’s really a pay-to-continue wall, Final Fantasy: All the Bravest is out now. What’s sad is that it’s pretty fun at its core, and I think many would have paid a higher price to have the full offering with out all the in-app purchase punches.
But not all of their offerings are pure pay-to-play evil. I’m still sad that many didn’t enjoy the fantastic Final Fantasy Dimensions. Yes, the game is episodic, so each chapter is priced separately. And yes, the combined price for all chapters is somewhat high. But you’re getting a great game with dozens of hours of gameplay. More importantly, it’s not pulling any gold digging tricks.
Symphonica has per-episode pricing as well, but they’re clear about that from the beginning. I had a pretty good time with that title, too.
Hopefully Square Enix figures out that their fanbase hates the freemium junk soon.
