FFXIV: How to get Gomphotherium gear in Dawntrail

Witness me, bloodbag!

Final Fantasy XIV has added a lot of new gear in Dawntrail, which is understandable with its brand-new expansion and increased level cap. However, none of the gear is more coveted than the level 96 Gomphotherium sets.

These items are selling for upwards of 100k Gil each on the Marketboard, presumably being purchased by people who want to live their best Mad Max life, but they’re actually not that hard to get. There is one particular vendor who sells all of the sets for every class at a much lower price – you just need to reach them.

There are actually multiple names for the level 96 gear, depending on which Job you want the gear for, and the headpiece for a set may not share the name of the chest piece. All of the following items are level 96 gear and have the same style despite the differing names:

  • Titanium Gold
  • Gomphotherium
  • Rroneek Surge
  • White Gold

There are two options to get your hands on these items. You can either play through the MSQ and get them from Acacia Coffers, which come as a reward for multiple level 96 quests in Shaaloani, or you can buy them.

If you’re looking to buy this set without overspending on the Marketboard, you’ll need to play your way through the MSQ until you reach the level 95 quest ‘The Long Road to Xak Tural’.

Once you enter Shaaloani with Erenville, you can head to the Sheshenewezi Springs Aetheryte in the western half of the map. Unlike previous areas, this entire map can be unlocked from the offset, so you have free reign to explore and reach the destination.

Once you’ve reached this small town, head to the Independant Merchant (X:15.8, Y:19.5) and select Purchase Battlecraft Gear for whichever Job you’re looking to dress up. Larger pieces, such as chest and leg gear, will cost you 47,590 Gil each. Smaller pieces, such as head, hand, and foot gear, will cost 28,554 Gil each.

How to craft Gomphotherium sets in Final Fantasy XIV

Some of the recipes which can be made with Gomphotherium Leather in Final Fantasy XIV

If you’re looking to save some Gil and have an affinity for crafting, you can craft all of the Gomphotherium sets yourself. You’ll need to stock up on Gomphotherium Skin before you can begin crafting with it. This monster dropped resource can be turned into Gomphotherium Leather by a Leatherworker once they reach level 96.

The recipe is as follows:

  • 4 Gomphotherium Skin
  • 1 Acacia Bark
  • 8 Earth Crystals

Once you have Gomphotherium Leather, it can be used in many different recipes by each crafting class beside Culinarian. You’ll need to be at least level 96 in the respective class before you can craft anything, though. Most of the pieces that would be used for Glamours are made by Leatherworker, and as well as Gomphotherium Leather, you’ll need a couple of other materials for most pieces.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Br’aax Leather
  • Rroneek Serge
