FFXIV 6.5: The Lunar Subterrane Dungeon Guide

Go Pound Sand, or something

In Final Fantasy XIV Patch 6.5, you’ll venture into the MMORPG’s latest dungeon with a FFIV namesake, The Lunar Subterrane. With Version 7.0 on the way next year, there’s a lot to wrap up here and within the Void.

Let us walk you through the latest struggle to save the light, with a quick rundown on the bosses and monsters lurking ahead in the FFXIV Lunar Subterrane dungeon. Beware, spoilers for Growing Light update await below.

The Lunar Subterrane Requirements

You’ll have five MSQ quests to finish before reaching the new dungeon, which unlocks near the end of ‘Down in the Dark’. The Lunar Subterrane requires a minimum Item Level of 620 and drops ilvl 635 gear pieces.

The Lunar Subterrane FFXIV Walkthrough

Upon arriving in the hellish moonscape, you’ll encounter several of the usual trash mobs. None of them are particularly troublesome, and even my poorly geared Dark Knight handled them easily. I can’t tank worth a flip, either, so there’s your bar.

You’ll do the same two or three-pack pulls, and then it’s time for a showdown with The Lunar Subterrane’s first boss, the Dark Elf.

The Dark Elf doesn’t have too many mechanics that one-shot the party, but it does leave nasty debuffs. Healers should watch the party for Doom. Players may pick up the instadeath status from the Dark Elf’s casts, but there’s plenty of time to Esuna.

Dark Elf Boss Mechanics

  • Hexing Staves summons two staves, both trigger a ‘plus’ pattern line AoE
    • The effect does not immediately trigger, remember the safe spots
    • Ruinous Confluence triggers the crisscrossing AoEs
  • Sorcerous Shroud summons three staves, leaves one safe spot
  • Void Dark II summons individual AoEs, soak then move into the Hexing Staves safe spot
  • Shadowy Sigil marks every tile with a square or triangle
    • Stand on the shape opposite of what the boss shows
  • Abyssal Outburst casts raidwide damage

Dancyan Antlion

Another couple of trash mobs, then here comes the Antlion. The creepy crab’s biggest headache comes from the Stone Pillars along the east and west sides of the arena. Pay attention to the structures as the Antlion attacks, as two will collapse across the stage after its Landslip attack.

Dancyan Antlion Boss Mechanics – Lunar Subterrane FFXIV

  • Sandblast casts raidwide damage
  • Landslip divides arena into four lanes pushing north and south, use the arrows to dodge mechanics
  • Antlion March telegraphs zigzag pattern up and down arena, find a save triangle north
    • Landslip follow-up requires party dodge two crumbling stone pillars with arrows
  • Earthen Geyser is a stack AoE, move out immediately after
    • Pound Sand follows up, leaving quicksand that sucks up players within

Durante

Durante’s kit looks awfully flashy, but there’s no real tricks up his sleeve ā€” wing, whatever. Arrows and line telegraphs divide up the arena in a pretty tidy way. So, pay close attention to where his casts are point and chances are you’re safe.

Durante Boss Mechanics – Lunar Subterrane FFXIV guide

  • Arcane Edge is Durante’s tank buster
  • Forsaken Fount summons orbs that explode in large circular AoEs
  • Contrapasso splits the Forsaken Fount orbs in half. Both sides move away from each other as telegraphed by their arrows
  • Duplicitous Battery telegraphs circles in a spiral pattern twice. Stand in one of the second AoEs, then move into the first
  • Old Magic deals raidwide damage
  • Antipodal Assault is a group stack AoE, dealing proximity damage in order of lineup
  • Hard Slash has boss jump to one corner and cleave in a giant triangle in front of him. Stand to the immediate left or right of Durante
  • Twilight Phase cleaves through a large section of arena’s middle. Do not line up with the bones
  • Dark Impact tethers the boss to one side of the arena. Run to the opposite side of the tether

Voidmoon Gear and Collectables

With Durante defeated, check out the last few coffers from The Lunar Subterrane’s final boss. In addition to The Lunar Subterrane’s Voidmoon gear, the boss has a chance of dropping other collectables, including:

  • Kingdom of Baron (Endwalker) Orchestrion Roll
  • Wind-up Golbez
  • Durante Triple Triad Card
