Looks like Fallout 76‘s winter is over. Bethesda has announced that Nuclear Winter, Fallout 76‘s battle royale mode, will be coming to an end in September.

In a new blog, Bethesda discussed its plans for Fallout 76 in the upcoming summer showcase and the road ahead, which includes the sunsetting of the game’s Nuclear Winter mode. Here’s the statement on why:

“When we first introduced Nuclear Winter, we were thrilled to watch so many players from our community, as well as many newcomers, dive head first into our take on the ruthless last-player-standing Battle Royale genre. Over time, however, we’ve seen the vast majority of players prefer to explore other aspects of the game. It has also become tougher to put full Nuclear Winter lobbies together without also making sacrifices on match wait times.

Additionally, we’ve found it challenging to provide meaningful updates for Nuclear Winter, while also developing and supporting exciting new content for Adventure Mode in recent and upcoming updates. With all of this in mind, we are currently planning to sunset Nuclear Winter Mode in an update coming this September.”

Bethesda outlined a number of ways in which its rewarding players who participated in the Nuclear Winter mode with Perk Coins. Other mode-specific rewards will be made available through other means, while some—like the Vault Boy statues—will remain exclusive.

There will still be news ahead in Fallout 76‘s future, however. The publisher says it is excited to share more about what’s in store for Fallout 76 this year and beyond at the upcoming Xbox and Bethesda E3 showcase. You can find the details and times here in our full E3 schedule.
