The Blackbeard Pirates, led by the infamous Marshall D. Teach or Blackbeard, are one of the most feared and formidable pirate crews in the world of One Piece. After rising in infamy, the once-unknown Blackbeard Pirates had been acknowledged as part of the Seven Warlords and, ultimately, one of the Four Emperors.
Unlike most pirate crews in the series, the Blackbeard Pirates aren’t bonded by some sense of camaraderie. Well, they might be to a certain degree, but that’s not the main point. They are, for the most part, sticking with the crew to fulfill their own hidden agenda. Here are all the key crew members of the Blackbeard Pirates.
Marshall D. Teach
The Blackbeard Pirates wouldn’t be the Blackbeard Pirates without their eponymous captain Marshall D. Teach. Blackbeard’s ambition knows no bounds. Originally a member of the Whitebeard Pirates, he betrayed his former crew to obtain the Dark-Dark Fruit, killing his crewmate Thatch in the process. His ultimate goal is to become the Pirate King, and he is willing to do whatever it takes to achieve this.
Teach possesses not one but two Devil Fruit abilities. The first, which was already mentioned, is the Dark-Dark Fruit. It allows him to manipulate darkness and nullify other Devil Fruit abilities. His second fruit, the Tremor-Tremor Fruit, was stolen from Whitebeard’s corpse during the Marineford War. This fruit grants him the ability to create massive shockwaves capable of destroying entire islands.
Jesus Burgess
Jesus Burgess, also known as Champion, serves as the helmsman and First Ship Captain of the Blackbeard Pirates. He is renowned for his superhuman strength and resilience. Burgess has an intense love of combat, constantly seeking greater adversaries. However, he isn’t a big fan of losing. He is willing to utilize any underhanded technique if it will ensure his win.
His fighting style relies heavily on his physical prowess, capable of delivering devastating physical attacks that can defeat even the toughest adversaries. His physical strength is further boosted after he has consumed the Strength-Strength Fruit, which grants a rather self-explanatory ability. He used to eye Luffy’s Gum-Gum Fruit, but his attempts always ended in failure.
Shiryu of the Rain
Shiryu of the Rain, the captain of the Blackbeard Pirates’ second ship, is a former head jailer of Impel Down. Known for his brutal and sadistic nature, Shiryu was imprisoned for his excessive cruelty towards prisoners. He joined the Blackbeard Pirates after being freed during the Impel Down Arc, seeing an opportunity to unleash his full potential without any moral constraints. Shiryu possesses the Clear-Clear Fruit, which grants him the power of invisibility. It’s the very same fruit Absalom, one of Gecko Moria’s cronies, used to possess.
Van Augur
Van Augur, known as Supersonic, is the sniper of the Blackbeard Pirates, as well as the captain of the third ship. He is known for his exceptional sharpshooting skills and superhuman accuracy, capable of hitting targets from incredible distances with pinpoint precision. He has also consumed the Warp-Warp Fruit, which allows him to teleport from one place to another.
Van Augur is one of the original members of the Blackbeard Pirates, and his loyalty to Blackbeard is unquestionable. He has shown care for Blackbeard’s wellbeing on multiple occasions, such as when he aided his captain during his duel with Ace. Unfortunately, little is known about the sharpshooter’s past and his overall objective.
Avalo Pizarro
Avalo Pizarro, known as the Corrupt King, is the captain of the Blackbeard Pirates’ fourth ship. He was a former king who was imprisoned in Impel Down for his tyranny and corruption. Similar to Shiryu, he joined the crew during the Impel Down Arc after eliminating the other prisoners on Impel Down’s lowest level. He is the eater of the Isle-Isle Fruit, turning him into an Island Human. At present, he has fully merged and controls the Blackbeard Pirates’ main territory, Fullalead Island.
Lafitte
Lafitte, also known as Demon Sheriff, serves as the navigator and the fifth ship captain of the Blackbeard Pirates. A former West Blue sheriff, Lafitte was dismissed from his position due to his extreme methods and sadistic tendencies.
His abilities include hypnosis and the power to sprout wings for flight. He has also eaten a still unrevealed Devil Fruit, though his wings may be a hint to what it is. Lafitte is also a master of stealth. He can infiltrate even the most-secured World Government establishments unnoticed. In fact, he was the culprit behind the Gates of Justice opening during the Marineford Arc.
Catarina Devon
The only female main member of the Blackbeard Pirates is no other than the Crescent Moon Hunter Catarina Devon. Serving as the Sixth Titanic Captain, Catarina Devon was one of the Level 6 inmates freed by Blackbeard. She was an active pirate during the Golden Age of Piracy, though her exploits were erased by the World Government after she was caught.
Catarina Devon is the current wielder of the Dog-Dog Fruit, Model: Nine-Tailed Fox. This Mythical Zoan grants her shapeshifting abilities, which she often uses to manipulate and deceive her enemies.
Sanjuan Wolf
Sanjuan Wolf, also known as Colossal Battleship, is a Giant that serves as the Blackbeard Pirates’ captain of the seventh ship. Despite his already big stature, Sanjuan Wolf has also eaten the Huge-Huge Fruit that allows him to enlarge his body further.
Sanjuan Wolf was freed from Impel Down by Blackbeard, joining the crew during the chaos of the Impel Down Arc. His loyalty to Blackbeard is rooted in gratitude for his freedom, and he serves the crew with unwavering dedication.
Vasco Shot
With the alias Heavy Drinker, Vasco Shot is the captain of the Blackbeard Pirates’ eighth ship. Known for his extreme alcoholism, Vasco Shot is a giant man with a penchant for violence and destruction. Interestingly, he has also consumed the Glug-Glug Fruit, though the exact details of his Devil Fruit remain unknown. Vasco Shot is another inmate who was freed by Blackbeard. During his time in jail, the cruelty of his crimes has made him infamous among the other inmates.
Doc Q
Serving as the crew’s doctor, Doc Q is also known as the Death God. In addition, he is also the Ninth Titanic Captain of the Blackbeard Pirates. Despite his sickly appearance and constant frailty, Doc Q is a highly skilled doctor with a twisted sense of humor. He possesses the Sick-Sick Fruit, which allows him to inflict various diseases upon others. Doc Q rides on his equally ailing horse, Stronger, who shares his master’s sickly condition.
Despite his frailty, he is a formidable fighter, using his knowledge of medicine and his Devil Fruit abilities to weaken and defeat his enemies. Alongside Von Augur, Jesus Burgess, and Lafitte, he completes the original members of the Blackbeard Pirates.
Kuzan
The Tenth Titanic Captain has certainly been a surprise to most fans. After losing the fight for the Fleet Admiral position, Kuzan quit being the Marines’ Admiral and turned to piracy. He was then recruited by Blackbeard, making him the last captain to join the crew. However, it remains unknown whether he has truly gone evil or he has another hidden agenda for joining the Emperor’s crew.
Kuzan’s fighting abilities go unquestioned. He can hold his ground even against the mightiest of foes in the series. Kuzan has eaten the Ice-Ice Fruit, making him an ice human. He commands the ability to form structures out of ice, as well as freeze anything and everything in his path. He is even strong enough to freeze the tsunami formed by Whitebeard’s Devil Fruit ability.
