EA denies rumors swirling around a Dead Space 2 remake

Off and on the shelf again.

EA Motive shifting its focus to Iron Man and Battlefield has apparently disrupted development on a new Dead Space remake, though Electronic Arts is denying the validity of that report.

On April 9, EA Motive, the studio behind the Dead Space 1 remake, was reassigned to work on the Battlefield series. Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grub reported, “They were working on Dead Space 2, and they are no longer working on it. It is on the shelf because the first game had lackluster sales is how it was phrased to me.” Grub elaborated that the sequel was believed to have been in the pre-production phase before getting shelved. “If you were looking forward to Dead Space 2, it’s bad news. Does this mean it never happens? I don’t know if that’s the case.”

It looked like all hope might have been lost, but an EA spokesperson told IGN, “We don’t normally comment on rumors, but there is no validity to this story.” The story didn’t end there, as Grubb fired back and defended his original claim. “I give you my permission to believe EA if you want, but whenever a company says “that isn’t true” but they don’t specify which part of the story they are talking about, well … yeah.”

Grubb doubled down and reported that a Dead Space 2 remake was being planned, but isn’t being made now. It remains to be seen what EA has up its sleeve, and whether another Dead Space remake is truly in the cards or not.
