Facebook fans of the EA NCAA Football franchise were treated to a seemingly ominous message this morning. The page, which has been inactive for 18 months, posted a three-second clip of a heart monitor beeping. Many took this as a clear signal that NCAA Football might be returning, that this presumed-dead series still had life in it.

Nah. Not at all.

EA Sports first talked to Polygon about the Facebook post. As reported by Polygon, “The label has nothing to announce and that the video was posted because college football’s national championship game is tonight.” A follow-up communication simply said “No news, sorry to get your hopes up.”

Since posting, EA has provided a third, more detailed statement saying “We have no new plans or announcements to make regarding the EA Sports NCAA Football series. Today’s National Championship game reminds us more than ever that the hearts in our community still beat for college football.”

EA’s tone-deafness again strikes a terribly sour note
