EA FC 25’s Division Rivals matchmaking might be broken amidst Mode Mastery rewards

Might be a problem

Division Rivals in EA FC 25 has always been a hot topic of discussion in the community, and matchmaking seems to be having a few issues.

Not many looked kindly to EA Sports increasing the number of wins required to get the weekly upgraded rewards. The requirements have been lowered since, but there are still complaints from the community. With the new Mode Mastery tokens available in Ultimate Team, players are trying their level best to move up the divisions. Sadly, several users have reported about unfair matchmaking halting their potential chances of a promotion.

EA FC 25 players are reportedly facing opponents from higher divisions

In Division Rivals, you’re supposed to be matched against opponents in your division. After winning a certain number of consecutive gains, you get a promotion and move to a higher division. Being in a higher division gets you better rewards, but right now, you can also get Mode Mastery tokens. There are some amazing rewards that you can unlock with these tokens, which makes more sense for everyone to move up as quickly as possible.

Unfortunately, several players are reporting facing opponents who are from higher divisions. If matchmaking works as intended, this should never happen in Division Rivals. If you’re in Division 4, for example, you’ll only go up with someone who is in Division 4 as well. This is pretty different from how matchmaking works in Friendlies and Champions, as evidenced by the embedded story below.

I have sldo tried messaging opponents who seem to be at a higher level than me, irrespective of the results. They apparently belong to the same division as I do, which will indicate that matchmaking is working normally. However, the difficulty of the games definitely goes up a notch when I am about to get promoted or if I am on a winning streak of 3-4 games.

This could also be a purely psychological case when everyone is pressured to grind hard. It’s one thing to get your weekly quota of 35 points and another when you’ve to move up a division (or more) to get the Mode Mastery tokens. Naturally, this makes the ecosystem quite competitive, which could be the main reason behind the harder matchmaking.

That said, there are instances like this where someone has encountered opponents from higher divisions. Unless their opponents have been lying (it makes no sense for them to do so), matchmaking could be an issue. Title Update 6 is going to go live soon, and it could fix any potential problem that might be there. Incidentally, there were similar occurrences earlier this year in EA FC 24 when the Division Rivals matchmaking was completely broken for a few days before being patched by EA Sports.
