Let the tears of joy flow
French independent studio Amplitude’s Dungeon of the Endless is leaving Steam Early Access today. Staying true to its roguelike nature, if you picked the game up during the Early Access phase, your progress will be wiped and you’ll have to start all over again.
Out of all the Early Access titles I tried this year, DotE was my biggest surprise. Initially I picked it up due to its beautiful pixel art style and promise of science-fiction dungeon crawling, but I quickly found there’s so much more to it than that.
Dungeon of the Endless successfully manages to combine sci-fi dungeon crawling and RPG-lite character advancement with rewarding tower defense strategy. Not only does the game manage to balance these genres without watering any of them down too much, it presents the whole in a gorgeous style that’s sure to please fans of the genre.
To celebrate the launch, Amplitude is giving away the soundtrack on Bandcamp. Even if you don’t pick up the game, the title’s excellent OST will make a great addition to your videogame music library.
