Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince, which was originally released for Nintendo Switch in December 2023, is about to make its debut on both PC and mobile platforms on September 11, allowing more people than ever to play.
According to Square Enix, the additional platforms will give players both new and old a chance to “discover new monster combinations and immerse themselves in strategic battles.”
In Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince, you play as Psaro the demon prince, who cannot harm monsters due to his curse. Rather than letting that get him down, though, Psaro chooses to go out and befriend them instead.
There are over 500 monsters which can be captured or otherwise be created through combining other pairs of monsters, so if you’re a collector or completionist, The Dark Prince could teeter between being a dream come true and a complete nightmare. There are some familiar faces from the Dragon Quest franchise, but also some completely new friends to be found.
The PC and mobile versions of The Dark Prince will not only include the base game, but also all DLC content which has previously been launched for the Nintendo Switch Digital Deluxe Edition:
The Mole Hill
- A Special dungeon where you’ll only find monsters who you have befriended already, including those which have specific spawning conditions or can only be obtained through combining other monsters during Synthesis.
Coach Joe’s Dungeon Gym
- Randomly generated dungeons where you can battle through legions of extremely powerful monsters.
Treasure Trunks
- Treasure chests which can be opened once every hour, providing you with useful items.
The Dark Prince will release for PC (via Steam) and mobile on September 11, and I’m now counting down the days until I can go monster wrangling all over again on a larger screen.
