Does Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 have crossplay and cross-save?

The Emperor protects compatibility.

Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 puts you in the armored boots of one of humanity’s greatest protectors 40,000 years into the grim dark future. A Tyranid threat is slowly consuming a planet, and you’re the only thing standing in the way of it spreading further into the Imperium.

The game has a full campaign that can be played solo or in co-op, as well as a PvP game mode that throws players into the roles of Space Marines and Chaos Space Marines and lets them duke it out for supremacy. These game modes are available across PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X, and the game supports crossplay and cross-save for the most part. But there are a few caveats that you might want to know about before deciding which version of the game you buy.

Yes, Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 has fully functional cross-save. As outlined in a community update prior to the game’s release, it’s all linked to the Prism Online Relay Services (PROS). This means you’ll need to sign up for a PROS account first. Then, you can use a QR code to transfer your save data between each version of the game and continue playing with it on whatever platform you choose.

Yes, Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 does have crossplay, but there are some caveats to how it works. The campaign and PvE modes have no restrictions, so all platforms can play together. However, in the interest of fairness and balancing, the crossplay for the game’s PvP mode is split between PC players in one pool and console players in the other.

So PC players will be able to play PvP with and against one another on Steam and the Epic Game Store, and PS5 and Xbox Series X/S players can play together, but these two pools can’t mix. I like this distinction because I mainly play on console, and in games like Helldivers 2, there can be fairness and balancing problems with hacking on PC, so I prefer the separated console and PC pools.

Of course, it’s possible to toggle crossplay on or off, depending on what you prefer. If you only want to play with other players on the same device as you, that’s something you can tweak. This level of approachability should make the game more open and meet players very close to the mark with their crossplay functionality needs.
