Does Starfield Have VR Support?

It’s no secret that virtually all the mainline Bethesda Game Studios RPGs are dreams come true for modders and modding communities. Given Starfield‘s high marks, it’s exceedingly likely that it, too, will end up having a long tail when it comes to fan-made content, but one of the things that some may have hoped modders wouldn’t have to touch is VR support. Notably, while mods certainly can implement VR support into games that don’t have it by default, it sure would be nice if Starfield worked out of the box with VR headsets, wouldn’t it?

So… does it? The long and short of it is: no.

What’s up with VR support in Starfield?

Starfield has no official VR support on launch day. Given Bethesda’s previous VR-ready releases, it doesn’t seem likely that such a massive feature would be made available anytime soon. Or for free, for that matter. More specifically, Bethesda releases VR versions of its mainline RPGs as standalone full-price games. As shown with Fallout 4 VR and The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim VR, Bethesda does not consider VR support to be something that just gets added onto a game’s regular feature set. Instead, VR versions come out years after the games’ initial release and function as their own separate thing.

Keeping that in mind, it does seem highly likely that a bespoke VR version of Starfield would be on Bethesda’s docket at some point in the future. Naturally, we cannot speak as to the when and how of it, but it’s possible that it’ll happen sometime in the feature.

A particularly prospective modder might try setting up a Starfield VR mod as well, even! This, however, is even less predictable than the aforementioned official option. VR owners hoping to explore the universe in their own virtual universe will need to sit tight and stay tuned for the time being, then.
