Does Palworld have a story?

Does Palworld have a story?

Not in the traditional sense...

With the release of Palworld, fans of Pokemon are inevitably going to formulate comparisons between the two titles. After all, a lot of the cute and cuddly Pals in Palworld do have some pretty distinct similarities to some Pokemon. But while Pokemon traditionally has a big focus on story, it makes sense to ask: does Palworld have a story?

What is the story in Palworld?

While Pokemon has some narrative-driven elements, Palworld actually does not have a linear story. Rather than telling a story over the course of the game, Palworld instead gives players a massive sandbox open world to forge their own story.

Instead of characters sending the player on quests, players in Palworld have a tutorial and mission log which will naturally progress them through the game. However, there’s not really any story that goes along with that progression, but rather just increasing your technology and obtaining better equipment, structures to build, and unlocking stronger Pals.

As you progress through Palworld, you will find various areas that sort of tell a story as to the history of Palworld. Broken ruins and large technological structures can be found littered across the world. However, nothing is really explained from a story standpoint, and all of these details more so just help build up the world of Palworld.

Are there other characters in Palworld?

Other than the character you play as in Palworld, there aren’t really other characters other than those you are playing with on multiplayer. You will encounter NPC’s that buy and sell things, but they don’t even have a name or any other purpose other than being a shopkeeper.

You’ll also encounter various named bosses across your journey in Palworld, like the first boss Rayne. However, there is no backstory or dialogue given to explain why exactly we want to take them out, other than the fact that it is our mission in the mission log.

So while it seems that Palworld does not have a story, at least in the more traditional sense, it’s up to the player to create their own story. This is done by catching Pals and building up your base as you explore the massive world it has to offer.
