Does Palworld autosave? How to tell if your game is being saved

You shouldn't lose your progress.

As a crafting game, Palworld offers prospective monster hunters and builders a plethora of tasks to complete and goals to reach. It would be tragic to lose progress in a crash, which isn’t unusual for games in early access. Does Palworld use autosave for progress, and how can you tell?

The good news is, yes, Palworld does have an autosave function. Most modern games include this useful functionality, allowing you to play for hours on end without worrying over stopping and manually saving. It’s especially useful in Palworld, a game that allows you to invite and play with friends on a server. No one wants to stop in the middle of a dungeon run with their team to make sure the Paldium Fragments they just harvested will get saved in their progress.

No, when things are going well, there should be zero concern over losing progress in the game. And that’s due to Palworld being actually a little too aggressive with its autosave.

How to check if your Palworld progress is getting saved with autosave

Palworld slams on the autosave roughly every 20 to 30 seconds, based on my gameplay. And it will not wait for you to get out of combat. This does lead to slight hitches as the game lurches for a split second to save your progress. It’s not overly obnoxious, but it can lead to missed arrows or Pal Spheres. You can tell the game is autosaving by checking the top-right of your screen for the saving icon.

There are two options available if you want to save manually. The first option is to quit the game, which manually saves your progress, and reload your file. If you’re an admin of a server, you can type ‘/Save’ and enter to manually save the server data.

If you do not see the icon during your game, stop playing. You could be dealing with an autosave bug. Here are some steps you can follow if you think you have the bug:

  • Restart the server if you’re an admin
  • Quit and restart the game
  • Verify the files on Steam or PC Game Pass
  • Restart your internet connection
  • Restart your platform
  • Reinstall the game

If those options don’t work, you may just have to wait until the game gets patched. You can send in a support ticket to developer Pocketpair directly as well. Since Palworld is in early access on both Steam and Game Pass, bugs and glitches are going to be common. Thankfully, the studio seems to be quick when it comes to addressing issues. Hopefully, any bugs you’re dealing with now will be gone shortly.
