That’s a whole lotta beta
Square Enix has announced the dates that the closed beta for Dissidia Final Fantasy NT will run for. The beta will begin at 9:00am PT on August 26 and close at the same time on September 4 for folks in Europe and the Americas. Folks in the Americas can try their hand at getting an invite here, while folks in Europe can try for an invite here.
However, while they’re being generous with the length, Square’s coming off as somewhat cheap and secretive in terms of content for the beta.
The company has confirmed the following characters will be available to use during the beta:
- Warrior of Light (Final Fantasy)
- Firion (Final Fantasy II)
- Onion Knight (Final Fantasy III)
- Cecil Harvey (Final Fantasy IV)
- Bartz Klauser (Final Fantasy V)
- Terra Branford (Final Fantasy VI)
- Cloud Strife (Final Fantasy VII)
- Squall Leonhart (Final Fantasy VIII)
- Zidane Tribal (Final Fantasy IX)
- Tidus (Final Fantasy X)
- Shantotto (Final Fantasy XI)
- Vaan (Final Fantasy XII)
- Lightning (Final Fantasy XIII)
- Y’shtola (Final Fantasy XIV)
It’s a rather light list that’s not very exciting in my personal opinion. I understand many characters have been changed from the PSP games for the 3-on-3 format, but there’s only one actual new character, which is Y’shtola, for folks to try. Where’s fan favorite Ramza from Tactics? Where’s Ace from Type-0?
Given the roster for the arcade version still hasn’t received all the villains from the PSP games, let alone supporting characters, it could be seen as an indication of the amount of growing the roster needs to do before launch. Especially when the only other real competition in the tag-team genre is sitting at over triple the amount of characters that Dissidia NT currently has and is being far more generous with its own beta.
The company did not confirm what arenas would be available during the beta, nor what modes would be featured other than the basic online versus mode. The company did confirm however that Jecht, who was confirmed for the arcade version yesterday, will be included in the base roster for the PlayStation 4 version.
Dissidia Final Fantasy NT is currently set for a worldwide launch on PlayStation 4 for early 2018.
