The demo for Codemaster’s latest game, DiRT: Colin McRae Off-Road, was released for Xbox 360 and PC earlier today. So if you’ve got a PC capable of running this game (recommended GeForce 8800), download the demo here. Otherwise, take a short intermission from your ongoing Halo 3 beta marathon to see what DiRT is all about.
I’ve never played a Colin McRae Rally game in my life, so I didn’t really know what to expect when I took the 360 version of DiRT for a test drive. Overall, I really enjoyed my time with the game. The graphics are good, the arcade style racing is fun, and purposely crashing through signs and denting guard rails is surprisingly enjoyable.
The only issues I had with DiRT were the overuse of lighting effects and the fact that the game can drop below 30 frames per second when the action heats up. Although these problems may grind a few gears for some people, the good still outweighs the bad — at least in my case, anyway.
