It’s my job to be cautiously optimistic and objective. Occasionally, my enthusiasm for a game boils over and makes a terrible mess on my proverbial range. That just happened with the Dexter iPhone trailer, viewable post-jump.

It doesn’t have any gameplay, but it does have an awesome animated model of Dexter. It also features an excellent monologue. ”The FBI estimates there are less than 50 serial killers active in the United States today,” says Michael C. Hall, who also plays Dexter in the Showtime series. “We don’t get together at conventions, share trade secrets or exchange Christmas cards. But sometimes I wonder what it’s like for the others.”

If the voice work and writing were lifted from the game, then it appears as if there won’t be much to worry about on the narrative side. I guess the good writing shouldn’t be much of a surprise. Timothy Schlattmann, a writer for the show, is penning the script for the mobile title. Let’s hope he glosses over the relationships and keeps the dark tone expressed in the trailer. I really don’t feel like playing a wedding preparation mini-game.
