‘Supporting all different play aspects’

The decision of whether your foes live or die in Deux Ex: Mankind Divided — particularly in your boss battles — will once again be yours and yours alone.

Talking to OXMDeux Ex: Mankind Divided director Patrick Fortier confirmed early reports detailing how it will be possible to complete the latest installment of the Deus Ex series without finishing off a boss.

In the last game, Human Revolution, most playthroughs automatically led toward a combat-heavy approach, particularly in the boss-defeating cutscenes.

“It’s all about supporting all the different play aspects,” says Fortier. “There are ways to stealth them, there are ways to beat them in combat and there are conversations you can have that maybe give you a different means of dealing with the situation altogether.”

“You can also decide to do it lethally or not,” added narrative director Mary DeMarle. “For Human Revolution, because of the way we designed it, [the bosses] always died in the cutscenes. You had no choice. But we rectified that in the Missing Link DLC, and we’ve rectified it in this game.”

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is coming to PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2016.

How do you prefer to play? Combat heavy and all-guns-blazing, or a slow, steady, stealthy approach?
