Destiny’s Exos are now a playable race in Starfield thanks to a mod

Where are the horns, though?

It takes but a passing glance at Bethesda’s Starfield to see it’s home to a phenomenal modding platform, regardless of its downsides. Star Wars mods are, as usual, the most popular choice, but Bungie’s Destiny is now a target as well, with ever-popular Exos entering the fray.

That’s right, if the news that Starfield is getting Year 2 DLC after the Shattered Space expansion pack comes out weren’t enough to thrill you, the playable Exo race might. At least, if you’re a Destiny fan. These robotic approximations of the human form are one of Destiny‘s most emblematic features, with the legendary Cayde-6 being a particularly popular example of what an Exo is like. This delightful mod comes from modder ExoWarlock313, who committed not only to retrofitting Starfield‘s character creator to support Exo customization, but also to turning some important NPCs into Exos themselves. The options for customization are so exhaustive, in fact, that you can straight-up recreate your Destiny 2 character if you wish to do so, which is impressive in its own right.

Turn your Starfield character into an Exo with this mod

Certainly, there’s a massive gulf between Starfield and Destiny in regard to their respective gameplay and progression loops, but it’s impossible to deny that they share the same basic appeal. A gritty science-fantasy rendition of the far future, with interstellar travel being easy as pie and enemies around every corner? Well, yeah, that’s what Starfield and Destiny are all about. With that in mind, it was only a matter of time before someone like ExoWarlock 313 came in to port Destiny content over to Starfield.

The aptly titled ‘Exo Playable Race’ mod therefore comes with all of the following customization options:

  • 7 male Exo faces
  • 7 female Exo faces
  • 20 unique head accessories
  • 27 different colors for faces and accessories
  • 8 unique face decals per face, with each of the 27 colors available as an option
  • 9 colors to choose from for eyes and teeth (during speech)

Not bad at all, right? It gets better, though, because playing as an Exo in Starfield also means you get to enjoy some of the machine bodies’ obvious boons:

  • you can survive the vacuum of space without a helmet and a spacesuit
  • +60 physical resistance
  • +40 energy resistance
  • +5 corrosion resistance
  • +20 thermal resistance
  • +20 airborne resistance
  • -25 EM resistance

Exos were, after all, designed to be more durable, versatile, and capable than your average human in Destiny, so it makes sense that this would be reflected in the mod. Naturally, there are some issues with the mod, with customization, for example, working slightly differently than it does in the base game. There’s slight clipping with some outfits, too, and apparel that does not cover arms and legs will incorrectly render your character’s skin texture. Nothing hugely game-breaking, however.

Now, if someone were to start porting over Destiny‘s delightful armor and weapon designs over to Starfield, too, that’d be just phenomenal.
