Bungie has finally spilled the beans on a number of facets of the Destiny 2 Witch Queen expansion, including power levels (gear scores). So here’s the Destiny 2 power floor rundown.

When everyone signs in on February 22, you will be at the minimum power floor of 1350. This is an “appropriate power level to start the Witch Queen campaign,” meaning you won’t need to grind before you actually play the new expansion. After that, you’ll need to play through the story and do a bit of endgame to get 1500, which is the “soft cap.” From there you need powerful drops (through more grind) to reach 1550, which is roughly “raid-ready” for a lot of builds/playstyles, generally speaking. After that you can get to the hard cap of 1560 power through raids, Trials of Osiris, Iron Banner, and “other endgame PVE sources.”

This is really how things go each expansion and nothing is truly new here. But the numbers are extremely helpful so the player base understands exactly where they stand at any point, and which power level they “should” be at depending on their progress. Also knowing out of the gate that they can tackle the Witch Queen story, even after an extended hiatus, is comforting. Expected, but comforting nonetheless.

Bungie also warns us that some pinnacle and powerful sources will be “adjusted,” so keep an eye on the tooltips in-game for activities to ensure that you’re not just grinding in auto-pilot mode.
