Dust off your best Grandmaster attire. There’s a new sword being offered as a Nightfall reward inĀ Destiny 2, and it can drop with some spicy rolls. The Slammer is a new Stasis Vortex Frame sword that released alongside the weekly reset on March 19. With rolls offering the ability to slay out multiple Champion types or become a horde cleaver, Guardians may want to prioritize nabbing The Slammer over daydreaming about theĀ upcoming Onslaught activityĀ or grindingĀ Guardian Games All-Stars.
Nightfall Strikes are a variant of the regular Strikes in Destiny 2, offering increasing challenges and rewards. There are four difficulties for Nightfalls, going from Heroic to Legendary to Master and then to Grandmaster. As the difficulty rises, enemies get stronger, and modifiers are added to really turn up the heat. Players can earn a Nightfall weapon at any difficulty, but chances increase with difficulty, and a rare Adept version is guaranteed after a Grandmaster completion.
The Slammer is the featured Nightfall weapon from March 19 to March 26, meaning players who want one will have the week to get into those Nightfalls.
How to focus The Slammer from Zavala
While the primary method of acquiring The Slammer is through Nightfall Strikes, Guardians can focus more at the Tower after their first. Once The Slammer has been added to Collections, players can visit Zavala at the Tower and access the Focused Decoding option to see Vanguard gear up for offer. Alongside Vanguard armor and weapons, Nightfall weapons are also on the menu.
Any available Nightfall weapon can be focused anytime, excluding Adept options. This means players can still try to get the roll they’re looking for even if The Slammer isn’t the current featured Nightfall weapon. That said, the Adept version is ideally what Guardians want, as it allows the use of Adept mods. It costs five Vanguard engrams and 25,000 Glimmer for one roll of The Slammer and the same plus ten Nightfall Cipher (Adept) tokens for one roll of The Slammer (Adept).
What can The Slammer roll with?
A Vortex Frame sword is usually enough on its own to get Destiny 2 players excited, but The Slammer even has a little more going on. As a Stasis sword, it can roll with Cold Steel, which allows Stasis slow and shatter effects to proc while using the weapon. As if that wasn’t enough, the sword can sport other popular Perks, like Bait and Switch, Eager Edge, Chain Reaction, and Attrition Orbs.
Players looking to take The Slammer into PvE content are in luck, as there seems to be no shortage of fun rolls to experiment with. If players want something that can absolutely annihilate swarms of enemies, look no further than Chain Reaction partnered with either Cold Steel or Bait and Switch. For boss damage, Relentless Strikes or Attrition Orbs work alongside Bait and Switch or Cold Steel (depending on build).
The Slammer has less viability in PvP, but that’s more of a result of where swords are right now in the meta. What makes The Slammer attractive as a possible option for PvP players is the unique perks it can have. Namely, most Crucible players will be looking for Eager Edge and Cold Steel. Eager Edge allows users to zip across the battlefield in a single swing, and Cold Steel ensures any enemies that survive an attack will be slowed.
