Deadlock: Best Wraith build

Twisted Kills

Deadlock, Valve’s new attempt at shaking up the whole competitive gaming scene, has finally stepped out of the shadows. We’re talking about a hero shooter that’s also a MOBA, and thus a game where making the best possible picks when equipping your character will prove vital when competing against players of your own skill level. This time we’ll be talking about how to build your Wraith.

Wraith is a strange choice for a name in a shooting game, as Apex Legends already has its own Wraith. Still, Deadlock‘s Wraith has a bunch of tricks and literal cards up her sleeve to make her stand apart.

(This guide is heavily influenced by Khazix’s build, currently the most dominating Wraith build by a high margin. Let’s look at how it works.)

Wraith in a nutshell

Though Deadlock recommends Wraith as a good beginner character, she is a high-risk, high-reward character. Wraith players can toe the line between the glory of ending the round as the heroes responsible for the death of dozens of enemies, or the infamy of being the one to die an embarrassing number of times in even more embarrassing ways. The difference between getting either outcome will lie in understanding that this character requires you take your time to wait for the right opening to get the right kill(s).

Wraith is a hard carry with high mobility who’s at her best when she teleports into isolated opponents or behind the enemy lines, dishes out tons of damage to get the kill, then moves out before the enemy team gets the best out of her low defenses.

Wraith’s abilities

Card Trick Hitting enemies with Wraith’s main gun will charge up a meter that will give her a throwing card. This allows Wraith to throw a homing explosive Gambit-style card at the opponent she’s aiming at for 100 damage. Card trick works wonders for lane pushing, is a great finisher, and also a great option to use on enemies who’re sitting behind cover because of its splash damage.

Upgrades:

1 AP: +1 charge, 2 AP: +50 Damage 5 AP +%50 card summoning rate.

Project Mind – This ability looks and sounds a lot like Twisted Fate’s ult from League Of Legends, or the blink ability from the Dishonored series. It allows players to aim at a point up to 80 feet (or 25 meters) away and teleport there (45 second cooldown). This ability is key to going in for the kill or getting out to safety.

Upgrades:

1 AP: +50 feet (15 meter) cast range, 2 AP: Adds a 300 bullet shield that lasts for 8 seconds after teleport, 5 AP: reduces cooldown by 30 seconds.

Full Auto – Grants Wraith a 20% higher firing rate, and all teammates and friendly units within 80 feet of her a 10% higher firing rate for five seconds.

Upgrades: 1 AP: -15 seconds cooldown, 2 AP: +5 spirit damage for each bullet, 5 AP: heals for %35 of gun damage inflicted

Telekinesis – Stuns the enemy in Wraith’s crosshair in the air and deals damage upon completion.

Upgrades:

1 AP: 30 Second cooldown, 2 AP: +0.5s Duration, 5 AP: Telekinesis gains AOE around Wraith.

Telekinesis is a great ability, but one that can be countered by enemies building Quicksilver Sash-like items such as Ethereal Shift.

One might feel like focusing on Wraith’s gun ability, full auto, but her card-throwing ability does a great job at helping the early push, so getting Card Trick first will also work. You should unlock project mind second, as that’s what makes Wraith stand apart from the rest of the pack — as well as get those who stray too far from their own pack. Lastly, do Telekinesis.

What to buy first for Wraith

At the core of Wraith’s best build lie Quicksilver Reload, Tesla Bullets, and Lucky shot. Still, those aren’t all on the cheap side, so let’s walk you through a good way to progress and get them.

Most of Wraith’s build is gun-based, and you should begin with Basic Magazine and Monster Rounds to increase your pushing power and DPS. You should work towards getting Quiscksilver Reload as soon as you can, as the more you shoot, the more hits, and the more card charges you’ll get. Then you can get Healing Rite if you feel like your low survivability is preventing you from getting better results, and Mystic Reach if you need your abilities to be hitting from farther away.

What to buy second for Wraith

At this point we’ll invest even further in Wraith’s lane-clearing abilities. Tesla Bullets and Titanic Magazine do a great combo, as Titanic will give you more bullets, and Tesla will imbue your bullets with the chance to shock your target and one of their nearby allies. Slowing Bullets is an excellent complement that you can get now or earlier, if need be.

What to buy last for Wraith

During the late game, we can turn Wraith into one of the most lethal characters in Deadlock. Lucky Shot is your best pick, and if you’re doing well enough you should invest in Glass Cannon for even more damage, Curse, Inhibitor, Vampiric Burst, and Leech.

What to maybe buy for Wraith

Having a hard time with Wraith will likely stem from not being able to put your high-damage arsenal to use because you keep on running to an early grave. If that’s the case, consider infusing your build with Extra Regen, Healbane, and Bullet Armor, Spirit Armor and their stronger variants, depending on the kind of damage that’s giving you the most trouble. If you’re having trouble trading with enemies, add Improved Reach, and if you’re having trouble killing tankier enemies, get Toxic Bullets to deal percent bleed damage.
