Dead by Daylight fans want devs to hit the killswitch on The Trickster over potential epilepsy trigger

Nobody wants the risk leaving the Killer live poses.

Dead by Daylight fans are pleading with developer Behaviour Interactive to pull the killswitch on The Trickster Killer after a report of this character potentially causing a graphical issue that could be a trigger for those with epilepsy or a similar condition.

Behaviour Interactive claims it has received a report for the issue but that it’s found no evidence for it and can’t replicate it. Specifically, the developer stated, “Currently the issue is not widespread.” This is the reason it hasn’t yet pulled the killswitch on The Trickster and removed the Killer from the game. However, fans are now pleading that the character be temporarily removed from the game, or a warning added in its opening menus to ensure those who could be affected by the graphical issue are aware.

Fans just want the community to be safe

The graphical issue in question is outlined in detail in the above video from theMrHeadache. He doesn’t replicate it or show it because that would be dangerous. What happens is that while playing as a Survivor against The Trickster, once the meter on your character has been filled up due to the number of knives that have hit you, the screen will turn pink and then flash with every subsequent knife hit.

The heart of the issue is that no one understands why, with even just one report of an epilepsy trigger issue, Behaviour Interactive hasn’t hit the killswitch and removed The Trickster from the game until it can confirm what is happening.

Streamer Billy Goat replied directly to Behaviour Interactive’s post, expressing her sadness as someone who can relate to those who might be affected by the issue. “As a gamer with a disability that can be triggered by situations like this(epilepsy), seeing issues like this in games is so heartbreaking. For almost a decade I have been unable to play certain games I looked forward to trying purely because they are not accessible/do not have a toggle to turn those events down/off and it is just not worth the risk and my health. A warning prior is simply not good enough. i may not be a dbd main but i do enjoy the game from time to time. There are so many DBD main game players with similar disabilities and the thought of their favorite game being unplayable and truly affecting their health currently is heartbreaking. IMO kill switch.”

Another creator, Kaiser The Bard, has even shared screenshots from those in his community who have managed to replicate the issue when Behaviour Interactive could not. Note that no one is doing this to make the developer look bad. They’re desperate to keep everyone in the community safe, even if that just means a photosensitivity warning is added to the startup menu.

As a Dead by Daylight fan myself, it’s definitely confusing to see the developer opt not to hit the killswitch and remove the Killer when it’s had no problem doing so in the past. The community on Twitter and now Reddit is growing increasingly impatient, and it’s only going to get worse if Behaviour Interactive doesn’t add a temporary precautionary warning to the game at the very least.
