Good. Demon’s Souls tight corners and narrow corridors made me so nervous that it probably took months off my life in stress. I’m sure follow-up Dark Souls will do the same, but at least I can take comfort in knowing that the game world is a bit larger, and more open.
This tidbit comes from 1UP’s Q&A session with game director Hidetaka Miyazaki. He wouldn’t drop much info about the upcoming title, but he did say we can expect a world map about 1.5 times the size of Demon’s Souls’ map, and that it may feel even bigger than that.
When asked about changes to weapons or weapon types, Miyazaki only offered up this: “…the ‘Scythe of the death god’ is a favorite motif. Personally I would definitely like to use it for Dark Souls.” So, scythes!
Finally, when asked about the replacement for the Soul Tendency system, Miyazaki said there wouldn’t necessarily be one. But something different is coming. “This game will use a new network system which does not utilize a specific server. We plan to provide a new online experience using this new method,” he explained.
It sounds even more scary to me. Be sure to check out our preview of Dark Souls to hold you over.
