Cyberpunk 2077 got an apology video from the co-founder of CD Projekt

Next up: lots of patches, free DLC, and then the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions in the ‘second half’ of 2021

I’m not sure how ready you all are to hear apologies for the sad state of Cyberpunk 2077 at launch – particularly on “old-generation consoles” – but CD Projekt co-founder Marcin IwiÅ„ski has a message.

The studio also posted an updated FAQ covering a range of topics like what went wrong with the overly ambitious last-gen ports, why the review rollout felt so sketchy, and when Cyberpunk 2077 will reappear on the PlayStation Store. (To that latter point, no date yet – just “as soon as possible.”)

“I and the entire leadership team are deeply sorry for [the substandard quality of the console versions of Cyberpunk 2077], and this video is me publicly owning up to that,” IwiÅ„ski said in the video. “Please, don’t fault any of our teams for what happened. They all are incredibly talented and hardworking. Myself and the board are the final decision-makers, and it was our call to release the game.”

The next notable game update will be dropping “within ten days,” and a more “significant” update will release in “the following weeks.” The studio is prioritizing bug fixes and improvements over the planned DLC – expect to hear more about it “in the upcoming months” – and the free PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X upgrades for Cyberpunk 2077 are now targeting the “second half” of 2021. It’s a marathon.

Cyberpunk 2077 will end up being a cautionary modern-day case study, no doubt about it. We’ve seen the game at its worst. When everything is said and done, I’m curious to see it at its best.
