Last week’s Sup Holmes featuring lead animator on Skullgirls and Silent Hill/Scott Pilgrim/Lesbian Spider Queens from Mars illustrator Mariel Cartwright is now on iTunes and YouTube, which is a miracle. Mariel told me a few weeks before doing the show that she was shy, and had never done a video interview before. Honestly, that had me a bit worried. An hour-and-half-long live video interview isn’t the easiest way to undo a phobia of appearing on camera.

All my worries were in vain. Mariel was a charmer from beginning to end, dropping inside info on some potential plans for Skullgirls (with talk of tons of DLC characters), how she managed to score work on Silent Hill: Shattered Memories as her first job in the industry, what it was like having a Disney animator as a father, what she thinks of accusations that Skullgirls is sexist, and plenty of other moments of revelry. If the team at Lab Zero knows what’s good for them, they’ll ask Mariel to do more video interviews down the line. She’s electric.

Thanks again to Mariel for hanging out with us, and make sure to tune in this Sunday at 1pm PST/4pm EST when we welcome Gordon Midwood of Lilt Line and Derrick the Deathfin (a game you can win!) to the program. I’m worried about this episode too, so I’m sure it will be great.
