Content Warning Failed to Extract

Content Warning Failed to Extract fix

Careful with the footage!

The newly released Content Warning by Landfall is an incredibly funā€”and creepyā€”alternative to Lethal Company. However, a common error at the moment is causing some players to get an error called Failed to Extract when trying to retrieve the disc from the camera after recording. This is how to fix the Failed to Extract error in Content Warning.

How to fix Failed to Extract in Content Warning

If you get the Failed to Extract error when trying to eject the recording from the camera in Content Warning, the only way to fix it is by backing out and hosting a completely new lobby. Once you get the error, you will continue to get it no matter what you do until you rehost the game and start a new lobby. However, after doing this there are steps you can take to ensure that the Failed to Extract error doesn’t occur again. Here’s what you can do to prevent the Failed to Extract error in Content Warning:

  • Do not spam record. Only turn the camera on and record when you know you’re getting some good footage. Turning it on and off is what usually causes issues. The error occurs when the recording process is spammed as it fills up the disc with too much-fragmented footage.
  • Have only one person record. When multiple people record it also seems to fill up the disc faster, also causing the Failed to Extract error. Pick one person to record and have them do all the filming.
  • Whoever does the recording, should also turn in the footage at the end. When the camera and therefore footage is passed around, the other players appear to download the camera footage in the background of the game which is also causing the error.

Essentially, designate one player to be the cameraman and have them do the filming and hand over the tape at the end. Also, try not to keep turning the camera on and off. Film all the cool stuff, but don’t just keep turning it on and off.

It’s important to note this is clearly a bug, and the devs have confirmed they are aware of it and looking into it. Hopefully it will be fixed soon and you will not have to take these extract steps to fix the Failed to Extract error.

How to still save the footage if you get Failed to Extract error

While you can’t turn in any existing corrupted footage that gives you the Failed to Extract error, you can actually save them locally on your computer in case you recorded something cool you want to share with others. When this happens, simply hit the F3 key on your keyboard while in-game on Content Warning and it will save the footage locally for you to view.
