Pesci is obvious, but DeVito? Not seeing it

If you play the original Bayonetta and don’t immediately think of Joe Pesci the moment Enzo opens his mouth, you haven’t been getting enough Vinny in your life. Some people find his manner of speech annoying, but like former Destructoid joy-bringer Chad Concelmo, I like the fat man.

As obvious as the celebrity homage is, it’s cool that Bayonetta director Hideki Kamiya acknowledged the fact on Twitter. But Pesci isn’t the only angry little Italian to lend his likeness to Enzo. Kamiya also stated that Danny DeVito was another inspiration. It’s not as immediately noticeable, but who am I to tell him he’s mistaken?

If Enzo returns for the sequel, I hope they really play up the DeVito angle. Maybe dress him up as a troll and make him the guardian of “boys’ souls.” Or he could go full-on Oswald Cobblepot and ride around in a giant rubber ducky.
