Yesterday was DesignerCon, an annual art convention with a strong focus on custom vinyl and collectible figurines. On display were Squid Kids Ink’s So Analog figurines, a line of anthropomorphized retro game media like cassettes and cartridges, including the 10-Doh! category of bipedal NES paks. It was in this collection that artist Tracy Tubera submitted a mashup of Super Mario Bros. and Street Fighter II, which you can see in the gallery below.
What I really want to draw attention to, however, is the print in the header that was being sold for $20 at the Squid Kids booth. It’s a classy piece that expands upon Tubera’s original concept, turning Mario into Ryu, Luigi into Ken, Peach into Chun-Li, and Toad into friggin’ Guile. That’s hot. The whole show was probably hot. I wish I could have gone. I wanna do fun stuff, too.
