For those that don’t know, Seaman was a Sega Dreamcast title hosted by Leonard Nimoy. It blurred the line betweeg “art” and “mainstream” games like few others ever have, or probably ever will. Seaman‘s chimera-like star was a perfect fit for this half-virtual pet, half-virtual existential dilemma simulator. it was a game that worked on multiple levels, and did a lot to leave a lasting impression. Thanks to Seaman, I’m still not sure that The Beatles really existed.
Seaman creator and Guild 01 developer Yoot Saito recently posted the above picture of Santa Seaman on Twitter, along with the cryptic statement that “it’s time to start thinking about the end of the year”. We’d heard a while back that a new Seaman game could be in the works, so I’ve got my fingers crossed that this is a sign. The 3DS would likely be the best choice for the game, thanks to the console’s relatively low development costs and built-in microphone.
But I’m getting ahead of myself. Saito-san might have posted this image for plenty of other reasons. Maybe he’s so excited for Christmas that he just couldn’t help but painstakingly craft a polygon model of a +10 year old videogame character dressed as Santa and then post it on the internet in the middle of June? Or maybe he’s just trolling me personally, knowing that I’ve been waiting for a new Seaman game for nearly half my life? Anything’s possible in the wonderful world of Seaman!
