Choo Choo Charles dev is back with 20-player prison break sim Cuff Bust

Long live the Jailiens.

Cuff Bust has been officially revealed as the second title from solo developer 2 Star Games, creator of the viral horror sensation Choo Choo Charles. In this manic multiplayer title, players must work together to escape prison and live life to the fullest on the outside.

Summer Game Fest 2024 highlighted Cuff Bust as a multiplayer game from a solo indie developer, which looks like it can offer all sorts of silliness for up to 20 players online. Players take on the role of Jailiens, creatures who must work together to escape their prison. The trouble is, they’re not the most coordinated bunch on the planet.

Mash heads on keyboards and blow prison guards sky-high in your escape attempts in Cuff Bust

Unlike other games where players must form an escape plan and gather the required tools for the job, Cuff Bust simply throws you into the role of a Jailien and asks you to get out of jail in any way you can think of.

Players can work together in teams of up to 20 people, attacking guards with bars of soap, accessing security systems by pounding their faces on keyboards and blowing the riot police up with more explosives than a building should be able to contain.

Choo Choo Charles did a fantastic job of subverting expectations with a sandbox world and terrifying spider train that hunted players down as they slowly upgraded their own locomotive. With Cuff Bust, the developer looks like it’s aiming to combine a normally slow gameplay concept with fast-paced multiplayer, leading to dynamic gameplay that’s likely always going to be hilarious and lead to unintended results.

The game is available to wishlist on Steam right now, with a potential release date of early 2025. However, take that window with a pinch of salt. 2 Star Games is known for taking its time and getting titles just right before they release.

As one final caveat, if you look closely at some of the images in the trailers, you might notice codes around the screen. These appear to be Steam codes for a Beta version. I tried to redeem one, but it had already been claimed. However, it will be worth keeping an eye out for more ways to join the beta.
