It wasn’t long ago that Capcom released their Resident Evil 4 port for the Wii, leaving PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 owners saying “Where’s ours?” Now, the tables have turned, with Resident Evil 5 — currently an exclusive for the PS3, 360, and soon PC — shipping next week.

But according to Capcom’s Matt Dahlgren, the publisher may have plans to spread to love sooner rather than later.

“[Resident Evil 5] was made for Xbox 360 and PS3,” he told Joystiq, “That being said, Nintendo Wii fans will be happy very soon.”

Rumors have flown around regarding Wii remakes of everything from Resident Evil 2 to Resident Evil: Code Veronica, but Capcom hasn’t issued any official word on the future of the franchise on Nintendo’s console. (Note: A direct port of Resident Evil Zero, almost identical to the original, was released for the Wii in Japan last year.) With RE5 launching next week, Capcom is free to shift their marketing and PR focus to something new. And with GDC and Capcom’s own private media events on the horizon, “very soon” may in fact be “very soon.”

What kind of Resident Evil game would you like to see on the Wii? A remake or an original title that takes advantage of the system’s unique capabilities?
