Whenever a AAA game with a good doggo companion is released, one of the first questions that most people have is, can you pet the dog? Of course, it doesn’t matter how good the graphics are, how fluid the gameplay is, or how steady the frame rate is if you can’t pet the dog. So here we are again, with the release ofĀ Final Fantasy XVIĀ and its best boy, Torgal.

Can you pet Torgal inĀ Final Fantasy XVI?

YES!Ā Square Enix has listened, and fans can rejoice because you can pet Torgal, the dog in Final Fantasy XVI. Ā You’ll need to wait a few hours into the game to pet him, but it sure is worth the wait.

Once you’ve been reunited with Torgal at the hideaway, he will be able to accompany you as a member of your party from the very next quest. It’s at this point that you can give him all of the love he deserves.

To pet Torgal, simply walk up and press “X” when close to him. The prompt to pet him will appear on the screen when you’re within a reachable range. Then, simply sit back and enjoy as the good boy gets all the praise he deserves.

Nothing actually happens in the game when you give Torgal the pets he requires, but it’s a sweet interaction between Clive and Torgal each time. There is also a trophy called “You can pet the dog” that unlocks after petting him five times. Though we recommend many more pets than that.
