Can you beat Dias in the Star Ocean 2 Armory Contest?

Some things never change.

Star Ocean: The Second Story’s showdown with Dias in the Laceur Kingdom Armory Tournament was a whole ordeal back in the internet days of old. If you’re playing as Claude, it seems he has an unfair, unbeatable advantage in the fight.

Try as you might, you still can’t beat Dias in the Lacuer Kingdom’s Armory Contest. This was how the original game played, and the same is true in Star Ocean Second Story R.

Dias is unbeatable, still

It doesn’t matter how much you prepare, Dias is still too powerful in the SO2 remake to win against in the Armory Tournament. In my experience, Dias just killed me with one hit. Even after resetting and trying quite a few times, no leveling seemed to make a difference.

In the original Star Ocean 2 release, I was always under the impression it was the same story. While I always chose Rena, the community always seemed to argue about whether or not it was possible just via a GameShark, or if the game would actually allow it and break.

Whatever the Outcome… Trophy

If the Whater the Outcome Achievement / Trophy is what’s throwing you off, you’re in like-minded company. Despite the endless community debates back in the day, I never spent hours trying to beat Dias in the Armory Contest. However, this trophy made me think I could; at least it did for a moment.

You get Whatever the Outcome by completing Rena’s side of The Second Story R. Whoops, so there was no need for me to save, reset, and run back in and try to fight Dias every five levels as Claude. In my experience, he just killed Claude in one hit.
