Halloween has come and gone, but it lives on in our hearts, and 2005’s first-person horror adventure Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth can offer some respite from creeping holiday cheer. The game is now available through GOG.com for Windows 7, 8, and 10 at the impulse-worthy price of $5.

My main point of reference for this game is the tense escape sequence shown below. I’ve always meant to play it, but talk of bugs and other annoyances with the PC version put me off. While there are fixes out there, sometimes you just want to get in, get scared for a bit, and get out without much fuss.

GOG says this build of Call of Cthulhu has “various small fixes, including: proper V-sync functionality, a fix for the triangle raindrops on AMD cards, and a custom-made fix provided by user Guzz, which allows the invisible sorcerers on the reef to appear properly, plus restores skybox rendering.”
