Blade Chimera is a futuristic ‘Vania that I’m totally here for

This is different.

Blade Chimera, a new title from Team Ladybug and WSS Playground — the teams behind Touhou: Luna Nights and Needy Streamer Overload, respectively — and published by Playism, was announced to be coming to the Switch at today’s Indie World Showcase. It’s a 2D, side-scrolling action game set in an abandoned neon cyberpunk city, and I am totally here for it.

In the announcement trailer, we’re shown a bit of the combat against monsters like a horde of giant frogs, mechanical dragons, and what seems to be a demonic sumo wrestler. But, what I think is the coolest part is that the main character’s sword has the ability to create structures to help them get around tricky obstacles. In the trailer, for example, we can see the sword manifest a bridge to help them cross from one area to another, and later we see the sword create an escalator to help them progress.

It also looks like the sword can be used for more practical uses during battle. In the trailer, we see the sword trapping one of the giant frogs in its radius and inflicting constant damage for a couple of seconds, and later we see it creating cover that blocks a particularly threatening bird enemy’s beam attack.

Blade Chimera is set for release in the Spring of 2024, and it’ll be available on the Nintendo Switch. If more information, including other platforms or a more specific date are made known, we’ll be sure to update this page accordingly.
