Black Ops 6 first-ever season set the bar for Call of Duty’s newest era, bringing in the Citadelle des Morts and the Nuketown-inspired Area 99 maps. But now that players have spent quite a lot of time with the latest update, it’s time to look onwards with Season 2.
Here’s everything you need to know about BO6 and Warzone Season 2, including a release date and upcoming content.
BO6 and Warzone Season 2 release date
According to the Call of Duty Blog, Black Ops 6 and Warzone Season 2 start on Jan. 28. It’ll likely launch during CoD’s standard update drops, around 9 a.m. PT/11 a.m. CT/12 p.m. ET. As always, clearing out some storage room beforehand is essential for the new season’s preloads.
While waiting for Season 2’s release, you can hop on to Black Ops 6 now to claim rewards from the new Squid Game event. Check out the latest event pass to get Operators inspired by the hit show, including a classic Squid Game player suit and the notorious Front Man. Zombies’ 115 Day celebration also brings a new Double XP event that lasts until Jan. 21 at 10 a.m. PT/12 p.m. CT/1 p.m. ET.
The event automatically triggers a Double XP bonus for BO6 Multiplayer, Zombies, and Warzone. Earn Double Player XP, Weapon XP, and GobbleGum earn rates while it’s active. However, the GobbleGum rewards are specifically for Zombies players, meaning Warzone-specific users cannot claim this bonus. You’ll need to purchase the full version of Black Ops 6 for the GobbleGums.
BO6 and Warzone Season 2 features, explained
Even though there’s not a whole lot of content revealed for BO6 Multiplayer and Warzone, we do know that an update for the Richochet Anti-Cheat system is on its way. The Call of Duty Blog indicates that it will arrive for Season 2 or, at the latest, Season 3. Cheating has unfortunately become a significant issue for Black Ops 6 players, particularly in Ranked Play. However, there’s hope that this will be addressed soon, restoring balance and fairness to the game.
There have been a few hints here and there on what new content we can expect for Multiplayer and Warzone. In particular, Treyarch’s Associate Creative Director, Miles Leslie, mentioned that the team is “focused on delivering original designs as the majority of post-launch maps” during an interview with Dexerto. That means Black Ops 6 and Warzone won’t have many remastered maps from other titles. On the other hand, there’s still a possibility of it happening, as he states, “no previous Black Ops title is off the table for potential remasters.”
Black Ops 6 Zombies Season 2 content
Plenty of new features have been confirmed for BO6 Zombies Season 2, with the following content:
- The Tomb map
- The Tomb Music Easter Egg
- Returning SMG weapon
- Challenge Tracker
- Co-Op Pause
- AFK kick loadout recovery
- Separate HUD presets for Zombies and BO6 Multiplayer
- New Perk Cola
- New Pack-a-Punch camos
The upcoming season offers a new Zombies map, The Tomb, which was previously mentioned after the Citadelle des Morts Main Quest. Explore a temple, either taking you inside the catacombs or out in the open at the excavation site.
Anticipate a new Zombies music Easter Egg featuring the rock and roll work of Kevin Sherwood. If you’re a longtime fan of the series, you’ve probably jammed it out to his many Call of Duty soundtracks, from World at War to Black Ops Cold War. Musical Easter Eggs have become a tradition in Zombies, especially in Black Ops 6. It’s already been included in Liberty Falls, Terminus, and Citadelle des Morts, allowing you to listen to a unique soundtrack during playthroughs. With The Tomb, you can uncover another melodic secret by locating the hidden headphones around the map.
While you’re out collecting those headphones, you can eliminate zombies with the return of a classic SMG. I’ve speculated that this Zombies weapon could be the MP-40, a weapon many players enjoyed in Origins. However, a few others could fit the bill, like World at War’s Thompson or the franchise’s long-running PPSh-41. Apart from this, you can expect general quality-of-life updates, like the Challenge Tracker for Calling Cards and a Co-Op Pause feature for the entire party. And, for those who go AFK, there’s no need to worry about losing out on gear when kicked for inactivity in the upcoming update.
If you look closely at the Call of Duty Day 115 blog post, you’ll see a few hints regarding other Season 2 drops. An image depicting iconic Zombies sodas teases a new Perk Cola will be released. The only two that haven’t made their way to Black Ops 6’s ZombiesĀ iteration are the Tombstone and Mule Kick soda. While Tombstone regains your lost items when revived, Mule Kick offers an additional weapon to your loadout. I’m hoping that Mule Kick is the one that makes the cut since I’m always in need of a third gun to help out with ammunition.
Another post suggests that we may be seeing the return of the Origins’ Ice Staff. The CoD Blog teases its possible arrival in a fan-made version of the staff, tying into the mode’s mystical side. Out of all the hints, I hope this teaser turns out to be true, along with the rest of the other Elemental Staffs. Origins is the biggest reason why I got into Zombies, and I’m sure a lot of other players would say the same. We’ll just have to see if The Tomb map does have some odes to Origins once it releases for BO6 Season 2.
