Sayu is a 4-star Anemo healer in Genshin Impact. Letās get the ball rolling on the best weapons, artifacts, and teams for our little ninja.
Playstyles
Sayu can be played primarily on-field or off-field. Off-field Sayu can fit into more diverse teams, but on-field Sayu lets you play Sonic the Hedgehog in Genshin.
Off-field support Sayu simply swaps in, uses her Skill, then Burst, then swaps out. In order to generate more particles, you can hold her Skill button briefly so she enters her rolling animation and then cancels out of her rolling state early by pressing Skill again. Her Burst will heal all teammates and then administer additional healing to your on-field character at intervals. She offers healing utility, buffs/debuffs through her artifact set, Swirl damage, and Anemo particles.
On-field, Sayu uses her hold Skill to turn into a ball, then rolls around into enemies. She deals constant Anemo damage in this state, and while itās not substantial on its own, it can still trigger Swirl. With off-field DPS units like Xiangling or Kaeya, you can turn Sayu into a rolling ball of death. This playstyle isnāt recommended for the hardest content, but it is extremely fun and unique.
Weapons
Favonius Greatsword / Katsuragikiri Nagamasa / Sacrificial Greatsword – Sayuās Energy Recharge requirements are enormous if you want to use her Burst with any regularity. This is especially true for off-field support Sayu, who relies on her Burst for much of her utility. Energy Recharge weapons, in general, are helpful, but these weapons specifically have passives that further help generate Energy.
Any Elemental Mastery weapon – If your Energy needs are met, you can opt for an Elemental Mastery weapon to maximize Sayuās Swirl damage.
Wolfās Gravestone / any ATK weapon – If your Sayu is not Constellation 6, then her healing scales only with ATK. If you donāt care as much about damage, you can build some ATK for more healing.
Artifacts
4pc Viridescent Venerer (4VV) – The standard artifact set for Anemo characters. This will buff Sayuās Swirl damage on top of letting her shred enemy RES for elements that she Swirls. 4VV is the best set for both off-field and on-field.
4pc Noblesse Oblige (4NO) – If you already have a 4VV holder on your team, you can opt for 4NO instead. Its passive grants a 20% ATK buff to your team when Sayu uses her Burst.Ā
Artifact Stats
Sands | Goblet | Circlet |
Energy Recharge Elemental Mastery ATK | Elemental Mastery ATK | CRIT Rate (if Favonius) |
Off-field Sayu can require upwards of 220% Energy Recharge in order to Burst every rotation. On-field Sayu can generally get by with less, but the exact number varies from around 150% to 180%, depending on your Constellation level and team. Try her out with your team to see how it feels, and err on the side of too much rather than too little.
If your Energy needs are met, then Elemental Mastery will be your best source of damage through bigger Swirls. At Constellation 6, Sayuās healing scales with Elemental Mastery too.
If your Sayu is pre-C6 and primarily a healer, consider building some ATK or Healing Bonus to supplement her healing. I still find her healing adequate with a full EM build, so you might want to try that first to gauge if you need more.
If equipping Favonius Greatsword, build some CRIT Rate too to help proc its passive more frequently.Ā
Teams
Off-field
Sayu, as an off-field support, can fit into any team that benefits from an Anemo healer. She is rarely the best choice in terms of team DPS, but she conveniently condenses 4VV RES shred, healing, and Anemo particle generation into one character slot. Some examples of teams include:
- Xiao – Faruzan – Fischl – Sayu
- Sucrose – Fischl – Xingqiu – Sayu
- Raiden – Xingqiu – Yelan – Sayu
- Nahida – Yelan – Raiden – Sayu
- Lisa – Fischl – Dendro Traveler – Sayu
On-field
While rolling, Sayu cannot use Normal Attacks, rendering her unable to trigger effects that depend on Normal Attacks. This makes her unable to synergize with some off-field DPS units like Xingqiu, Yelan, and Beidou. However, you can more or less pick anyone from the list below:
- Xiangling deals significant Pyro damage in an AoE around Sayu. Her Pyronado follows the player, complete freedom of motion. Make sure to bring Bennett to provide Energy and buff Xiangling.
- Kaeya deals Cryo damage with his Burst. Like Xiangling, his icicles follow Sayu as she rolls.Ā
- Fischl or Yae Miko do off-field Electro damage. Their turrets have a pretty generous range, giving Sayu plenty of space to roll around.
- Raiden Shogun or Kuki Shinobu are your Electro options for Hyperbloom teams. They should be built with full Elemental Mastery since they and Sayu will have mixed ownership of Hyperblooms.
- Nahida or Dendro Traveler are required for Hyperbloom teams. Nahida is better for this, as Dendro Travelerās Burst AoE is somewhat limiting.
- Ayato can provide off-field Hydro application for Hyperbloom. Make sure to build enough Energy Recharge to allow him to Burst when needed.
- Kazuha, Sucrose, or Lynette may sound redundant at first glance, but they can help provide Energy for Sayu and apply additional elements through absorptions and Swirls. Kazuha or Sucrose can also help group enemies together, allowing Swirls to hit multiple enemies at once.
