A journey through fashion history

Slaying the runway is the only goal you need to have in Dress to Impress. While there are tons of themes to get creative with, some are more difficult to come up with ideas for than others.

Decades is one of those themes that can stump you. If you don’t understand it or are simply too overwhelmed by how broad it is, we’re here to help. Here are some of the best outfit ideas for the decades theme.

What is the Decades theme?

Decades refers to dressing in the fashion of previous decades throughout history. This can range anywhere in time, but most typically players will dress in anything from fashion from the 1950’s to the 2010’s.

This gives you a wide range of possibilities, but the most important thing is to follow the trends of whatever decade you decide to choose, so your outfit is recognizable. Looking up the fashion of whatever decade you want to choose is helpful.

The first outfit idea for this theme is to use the 70s as its inspiration. One of the most iconic trends from the 70s is bell bottoms, so head over to the jeans and grab them, then choose a groovy pattern along with it.

Then, pair it with the tie front shirt and the sleeves that go along with it. You can pick any color to go with the pants, but I like to choose a nice burnt orange. Make sure to grab some sunglasses and a flower for your hair.

For shoes, platforms were very popular at the time, so pick out the platform Mary Janes and color them however you want. You can pick any hair or skin color, put make sure to keep the makeup natural, as that’s what was popular at the time.

For the next look, we’ll use the 2000’s as our muse. This outfit is inspired by a few trends from the time, namely the sweatsuits and trucker hats. Start with the mini jean skirt, and color it bright pink. I turn off the denim texture for a brighter color.

Next, go into code items and add the zip-up sweatsuit hoodie. Make sure you’ve used all the DTI codes available, so you’ll have this item. Color it with an animal print pattern — cheetah is iconic to the early 2000’s.

Grab the trucker hat and match it to your skirt. Then, you can color the stars with the animal print pattern to match them. Add a belt, and make sure the metal is bright gold. If you have VIP, I recommend the large one in the VIP room, but you can use any belt for this look.

The shoes you choose should be open-toed, but beyond that, you’re free to pick whatever ones you want. Make sure to add lots of jewelry, all in gold, too. You can use any skin color you’d like but make your hair bleach blonde. Don’t forget the big sunglasses.
