You only have to take one look at places like the official Lodestone or fan-run FFXIVCollect to know that there are a staggering number of Minions available in Final Fantasy XIV. Most of them share the same basic actions, however some of them have some fun little shared animations to find.
Out of the hundreds of Minions in Final Fantasy XIV, I’ve done some experimenting and found some of the coolest, or most unique, interactions. These can be between two Minions or between the player and their selected Minion. There’s even one that uses a title to open up a world of possibilities.
This is by no means an extensive list, and I urge you to experiment with your own minions to find some fun interactions of your own. I’m also not going to include the most well known interactions (Moogles will congregate and dance in circles) in this list.
Hydaelyn Idol & Zodiark Idol
If you’re lucky enough to not only have one of these Minions, but also know someone else with the opposing Minion, you can get a fun interaction out of them. When summoned, Hydaelyn will repeatedly dive onto Zodiark and kick him in what I’m assuming is his gut.
Hydaelyn Idol is a reward when you purchase the Growing Light: Final Fantasy XIV Original Soundtrack CD, while Zodiark Idol is a reward when you purchase Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker – The Art of Resurrection – Beyond the Veil.
Wind-up Runar & Brave New Y’shtola
In a particularly cute moment between the two Minions, and in reflection of the friendship built between their two characters during Y’shtola’s time on The First during Shadowbringers, Wind-up Runar will give Brave New Y’shtola a flower when the two Minions are summoned close together.
Wind-up Runar is a bonus item when you purchase Shadowbringers – The Art of Reflection – Histories Unwritten, and Brave New Y’shtola was a reward obtained through The Rising 2019, although she can now be purchased on the FFXIV Online Store.
Wind-up Magnai & Wind-up Sadu
Anyone who has played through Stormblood will know that Magnai is looking for a woman to satiate the desire in his heart, and many would argue that Sadu could be this woman. However, it never happens and the two can’t seem to be in the same room without fighting.
This is true even in Minion format, and if you get the two of them out near each other, they will draw weapons and attack one another.
Brina & Calca
If you’ve fought your way through The Antitower, or more recently The Strayborough Deadwalk, you’ll be more than aware of the formidable doll duo which is Brina and Calca. Even as Minions, these two will continuously dance around in circles with musical notes appearing around their waists.
Wind-up Alpha & Wind-up Omega M (or F)
Alpha, the ever-lovable little Chocobo chick who stands by our side during the Omega raid series, is known to be friendly to all who meet him. This apparently extends to Omega M and F, as well, because if you get him out while either of them are nearby, he will wave at them while they staunchly try to ignore his presence.
The Mammeteer title is more useful than you’d think
I can’t think of many titles in FFXIV that actually have an effect on the world around you, but Mammeteer is one of them.
Usually, wind-up Minions will not interact with you when you do the usual ‘/handover’ or ‘/pet’ emotes with them targetted. However, applying the Mammeteer title to yourself will enable you to interact with any wind-up Minion as you would any other.
Wind-up Omega M & Wind-up Omega F
When summoned close together, these two miniatures of the bosses in the Omega raid series will do a much more tame rendition of their laser attacks from the raids themselves. Admittedly, there aren’t actually any lasers, but the attacks are the same, and they will do it periodically as long as they remain in close proximity.
Slimes don’t like being poked
Admittedly, I don’t like being poked either, but I don’t quite go to the extent of melting into a puddle when someone jabs their finger into me.
Both Slime Puddle and Bite-sized Pudding, on the other hand, will melt when you use the ‘/poke’ emote on them. I’m not sure what caused the animators to put this in FFXIV, but it’s definitely a fun interaction once you’ve found it.
Hoary the Snowman
Hoary the Snowman has been in FFXIV for a very long time, as he was first introduced a whole decade ago as one of the rewards for 2014’s Starlight Celebration. He’s now purchasable on the FFXIV Online Store, and he has a very cute interaction that you’re only likely to figure out (outside of reading this) if you’re being a little mean.
If you take Hoary to any area where there’s snow on the ground and then use the ‘/throw’ emote to send a snowball his way, he will tip his hat to you. Definitely not how I’d react to having a snowball thrown at my head, but to each their own I suppose.
You too can carry Nanamo
It’s no secret that certain minions will sit on your shoulder (or head, if you play as a Lalafell) when beckoned. The Lesser Panda, Nutkin, and a lot of other minions display this behaviour. However, I didn’t expect Nanamo to be on the list of Minions who could use you as a seat.
If you have a soft spot for the Sultana and wish to ferry her around as Raubahn has done before you, you’re in luck. If you summon the Wind-up Nanamo Minion and then use the ‘/beckon’ emote, she will climb up your back and perch on your shoulder until you dismiss her.
