5 Best feats for Sorcerer in Baldur’s Gate 3

Fus ro dah!

Baldur’s Gate 3 features 12 different classes to choose from, with the Sorcerer being one of the more unique magical options. The Sorcerer commands the elements and has some intriguing subclasses, which offer you choices for your ancestry or bloodline that grants you powers. As you level up, there are feats you can also pick for the Sorcerer. Here are the best ones from my time mainly playing as this class.

5 Best Sorcerer feats in Baldur’s Gate 3

The point of a feat is to give you an edge over your current class. Whether you’re playing the Draconic Sorcerer as a Dragonborn like me, or you prefer to use Wild Magic, here are the feats you should consider for your Sorcerer. Keep in mind you only learn one feat normally once per four levels, so even at max level 12, you can only learn up to three feats. Here are the five best Sorcerer feats in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Ability Improvements

Ability Improvements is a feat any class can benefit from. You either pick two abilities—stats like Charisma or Constitution—and upgrade them by one point each, or pick one ability to gain two points in. This can be used to further improve your Charisma and make your spells even stronger, or even delve into a realm you don’t specialize in, like Dexterity, to help with lockpicking and the like.

This is also a valuable feat for anyone who wishes to multiclass as a Sorcerer. You can use this as a chance to boost the stats your other class(es) focuses on.

Spell Sniper

Spell Sniper is a must for any magical spellcaster class in Baldur’s Gate 3. The number you need to roll to land a critical hit with your spells decreases by one, making it ever-so-slightly easier to land a powerful blast. In addition, you get another cantrip to learn, which is always a welcome addition.

Tough

Tough is the universal feat any class can and should learn. It simply grants you two more hit points for every level you have earned in the game. If you struggle with surviving in this title, don’t miss out on this feat.

War Caster

Any magical class should consider War Caster sooner rather than later. For one, you get Advantage on any rolls you have to make to keep your spell concentration, which is worth picking up for this alone. But you also earn the right to use Shocking Grasp on foes that move out of your melee range, which is the mage equivalent of how enemies will hit you as you try to run away from them.

Elemental Adept

With Elemental Adept, you pick one element, such as acid or fire, and no enemy will be able to resist that element from you. Use a lot of fire spells like Burning Hands? Pick the fire option, and you’ll never have to worry about an enemy taking less damage from it this way. Storm Sorcery Sorcerers, in particular, heavily benefit from this.

Honorable Mentions

Actor

The primary ability stat for the Sorcerer in Baldur’s Gate 3 is Charisma, which makes the Actor feat even more fitting for the class. To start, Actor grants you an extra point towards Charisma to a max of 20, which will make your Sorcerer spells more powerful in general.

In addition, you also receive proficiency in Deception and Performance, which adds a nice layer to your character in conversations. Better yet, those newfound proficiencies are also doubled in Deception and Performance checks due to a special proficiency bonus. This feat makes your Sorcerer more viable in and out of combat, so long as you haven’t already reached 20 in Charisma.

Crossbow Expert

The light crossbow is one of the best weapons for the Sorcerer to use in battle since it is a ranged weapon and you are already proficient with it. Crossbow Expert makes your efforts even better for close-range whenever a melee enemy attacks you up close, which will inevitably happen at some point.

Considering your accuracy with spells and the crossbow are generally pretty poor in close-range, this is a welcome improvement.

Durable

The Durable feat grants you an extra point for your Constitution ability stat, which gives you more health. But the most valuable part of this particular feat is the extra bonus of giving you all of your health points back each time you do a short rest.

Usually, you only get half of your HP back when you do a short rest. But with this, you are fully back into the fray without having to waste supplies and go back to your camp. This is worth considering if you don’t like doing long rests and need an extra bit of health for your Sorcerer.

Magic Initiate: Cleric, Wizard, or Warlock

Magic Initiate is the name of a few different feats, which allow you to learn the spells of other classes. You could think of it like multiclassing without devoting an entire level to that class. In the case of Sorcerer, I find the Cleric, Wizard, and Warlock spells complement the Sorcerer quite nicely.

You can only pick one each time you get a feat, so choose whichever works best for you. If opt for the Cleric route, I suggest grabbing a healing spell like Healing Word, so you can keep your party in the fight. For Wizard, I recommend Find Familiar, so you have an extra companion to fight alongside you. For Warlock, Eldritch Blast is a must for its versatility as a cantrip.

Performer

Performer allows you to pretty much become a Bard without multiclassing. You get to play musical instruments to buff and help your team, and you get a bonus Charisma point in the process. Since Charisma is the main ability for Sorcerers, this is a win-win for your build.

At the end of the day, you can only pick up to three feats for the Sorcerer in total. My personal picks for rounding out this powerful magical class are Ability Improvement, Spell Sniper, and Tough. This way, you’ll emphasize your strengths and cover some weaknesses at the same time.

Best Subclass for Sorcerer in Baldur’s Gate 3

The best subclass for a Sorcerer in Baldur’s Gate 3 is Draconic Bloodline. Its Draconic Resilience features increase your maximum health by one point every level, pairing well with tough if you want to focus on keeping your character slightly tanky without significantly sacrificing damage potential. You also gain Dragon Ancestry, allowing you to choose an elemental resistance.

The Dragon Ancestor you pick will largely depend on your team composition and preferred spells. Our preferred option is Blue Draconic Ancestry, allowing you to utilize powerful lightning spells that pair well with water-based abilities. However, alternatives like Red Draconic Ancestry focus on fire and are a great choice if you already have a Tempest Cleric, druid, or other party members with lightning-based attacks.
