Don’t Nod is currently cooking up Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden, and new info came to light in a gameplay overview. Clocking in at seven minutes, the trailer covers everything from the two heroes at the heart of the story to the collector’s edition. Those heroes are a pair of Banishers known as Antea Duarte and Red Mac Raith. Their work as spirit hunters is just one aspect of this “journey between life, death, love, and sacrifices,” as explored below.
After introducing the protagonists, the Banishers preview goes into their individual skills and how they complement one another. It isn’t long before this relationship is split into the world of the living and that of the dead, setting up the main crux of the story. After Antea’s sudden death, Red is left alone while Antea returns as something she truly hates: a ghost. Banishers tasks them with working together from both sides and making sacrifices to sustain Red in her spirit form.Ā
Who ya gonna brawl?
The trailer shows off some of the other characters you’ll meet and how difficult decisions affect them and the story’s direction. There are plenty of people and creatures who aren’t willing to cooperate, too, which is where combat comes into play. Red has a rifle, sword, and Firebane at his disposal. Antea puts ethereal attacks to work, including spectral damage zones and teleportation.
All of these abilities can be upgraded to some extent, and Antea’s skills also come in handy outside of combat. She can use her powers to make navigation easier, enhancing her perception so her spectral leap can reach higher areas.
Seeing red
In addition to the standard release, there are two beefier versions of Banishers on the way. The $84.99 Red Echoes Edition packs the game with a leather-effect notebook, an ink writing set, and Wanderer Set DLC. The Collector’s Edition above will cost you $199.99. This one includes a Steelbook with the game, Red and Antea statue, official book, two signet rings, and Wanderer Set DLC.
Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden was first announced at The Game Awards 2022. It follows the act of previous Don’t Nod efforts like Remember Me, Tell Me Why, the Life is Strange series, and more. Focus Entertainment currently has it launching on November 7, 2023 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
