Baldur’s Gate 3: How to play Fetch with Scratch

Oh Scratch is such a good boy oh yes he is!

Everyone’s favorite companion inĀ Baldur’s Gate 3 has to be Scratch, right? You can invite the snow-colored doggo back to your camp if you have the Speak with Animals spell. Once he’s inhabiting your camp, you can actually utilize him as a companion and fight alongside you. But first, you must connect with Scratch on a deeper level. You see, it can’t be all work and no play when Scratch is around. This is how to play Fetch with Scratch in Baldur’s Gate 3.

How to get the ball to play with Scratch

In order to play Fetch with Scratch you will have to obtain a Ball. Every time you rest at your camp you have the chance to trigger an event, including fun events with Scratch.

Eventually Scratch will show up at camp with a ball in his mouth, ready to play. There doesn’t appear to be anything you can do specifically to trigger this event. However, as long as you have successfully recruited Scratch to join you at your camp, this should eventually trigger. Just keep resting at camp.

Once the event occurs, you can find the Ball in your inventory as seen in the screenshot above.

How to play Fetch with Scratch

Once you’ve acquired the Ball, it’s really easy to play Fetch with Scratch. Simply open your inventory and right-click on the Ball object. You will see a trajectory going from your character to your cursor, indicating where you will throw the ball.

Make sure you throw it in an area Scratch can reachā€”not on top of a cliff, for example. Once you click, you will throw the Ball to that location, and then Scratch will run to it, grab it, and bring it back to you. It will then be in your inventory so you can throw it again.

It appears doing this is what triggers you to be able to use Scratch as a companion in combat. You should now see the option to call upon him in your skills bar below. Scratch only has 5 HP and deals 1-6 melee damage, so don’t expect anything game-changing from the pupper.
