Astro Bot is getting its very own DualSense and it looks fantastic

The Astro Bot DualSense launches day-and-date with the game.

We want to sing “I’m Your GPU” all over again as PlayStation has revealed an official Astro Bot DualSense, available for pre-order on August 9. It launches alongside the game on September 6, just in time for the cute little robot’s big space adventure.

The PlayStation Blog released the first images of the Astro Bot DualSense to the world, and it looks clean. It features our favorite robot’s blue accents on the buttons and the handles in a glossy design. The blue-dotted eyes also beam on the touchpad.

Astro Bot DualSense will be in “limited quantities”

You can pre-order the controller through PlayStation Direct starting at 7 a.m. PT in the United States or 10 a.m. in the United Kingdom and other European regions, including France, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Austria, and Portugal. The DualSense will be “available in limited quantities” and its retail price will be $79.99/ā‚¬79.99/Ā£69.99. It will be in some select stores as well, but the PlayStation Blog didn’t describe which will have this controller.

It’s quite fitting that Astro Bot is getting its own DualSense, as it will be using DualSense features throughout the 3D platformer. The PlayStation Blog says we’ll be able to “feel the surfaces that Astro runs and slides on, from grass, sand, metal to more squishy textures of water.” This is a feature within the predecessor Astro’s Playroom as well, but according to the PlayStation Blog, the number of textures you can feel has increased in the sequel.

The adaptive triggers and haptic feedback are utilized with Astro’s new abilities as well, like the Barkster. The dog-themed jetpack has you feeling its thrusters by rattling your finger, for instance. You’ll also be using motion control with the DualSpeeder, which lets you fly between planets.

Unfortunately, Astro Bot won’t be supporting PS VR2, at least at launch. “This idea that we could add a VR mode is not applicable to this kind of game,” said developer Team Asobi studio head Nicolas Doucet told Digital Trends. “Itā€™s applicable to some first-person games like racing, but not for this kind of game.”

Astro Bot will be launching on September 6, 2024 exclusively for the PS5. While you wait, you can check out Astro Bot’s adorable Nendoroid.
